Differentiation in the production potential and efficiency of farms in the member states of the European UnionOriginal Paper

Anna Nowak, Monika Różańska-Boczula

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2019, 65(9):395-403 | DOI: 10.17221/378/2018-AGRICECON

This paper contains an evaluation of the differentiation of the production potential and efficiency of farms in the member states of the European Union in 2013-2016. To this end, a taxonomic method - Hellwig's development measure - was used. The study was based on data from the European Union Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). The study results indicate that member states such as the Netherlands, Denmark, Luxembourg, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Slovakia were characterised by the best agricultural production potential. The first four member states also showed the highest efficiency with regard to the utilisation...

Consumer purchasing behaviour for "biodiversity-friendly" vegetable products: increasing importance of informal relationshipsOriginal Paper

Vera Teresa Foti, Alessandro Scuderi, Giuseppe Stella, Giuseppe Timpanaro

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2019, 65(9):404-414 | DOI: 10.17221/377/2018-AGRICECON

The consumer's central role within biodiversity conservation networks may be connected to the process of reconnecting models of production and proven local consumption within "alternative food networks" that have the ability to conserve biodiversity and create sustainable production. This research focuses of the indirect relationships between consumers of biodiversity-friendly vegetable crops surveyed at the main farmers' markets in Sicily, revealing details of purchasing behaviour and the factors related to product choice using social network analysis (SNA) to analyse the social relationships. The research...

Investigation of asymmetric impulse responses between average consumption propensity and average food consumption propensity of household in KoreaOriginal Paper

Byeong-Il Ahn

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2019, 65(9):415-424 | DOI: 10.17221/287/2018-AGRICECON

Average consumption propensity (ACP) and average food consumption propensity (AFCP) are important indices for implementing macroeconomic and food policies. The present paper investigates the existence of asymmetric responses of ACP and AFCP to positive and negative shocks of each series in Korea. According to the estimation results of the Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) model, ACP and AFCP are analysed to have asymmetric responses to negative and positive shocks, regardless of whether the shock is imposed on the own or on the other series. The derived absolute values of the responses indicate that ACP...

Dynamic and spillover effects of USA import refusals on China's agricultural trade: Evidence from monthly dataOriginal Paper

Jiehong Zhou, Yu Wang, Rui Mao

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2019, 65(9):425-434 | DOI: 10.17221/15/2019-AGRICECON

Border inspections by developed nations are an essential export barrier to developing countries. Import refusals, in particular, not only exhibit dynamic impacts on exporters' performance in the refused destination but may also spill over into exports toward third markets. Using a panel structural vector autoregression model, the complete dynamics of China's agricultural export in response to United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) import refusals is estimated at the monthly level. Despite notable heterogeneities across sectors, negative and positive reactions that last mostly less than a year are revealed...

Risk in agriculture: An overview of the theoretical insights and recent development trends during last decade - A reviewReview

Lina Novickyté

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2019, 65(9):435-444 | DOI: 10.17221/11/2019-AGRICECON

The main purpose of this paper is to provide a detailed overview of the theoretical insights and recent development trends on risk in agriculture. It focuses on the synthesis and analysis of the research studies published over the period from 2008 through 2018 and aims to identify major findings obtained over the recent decade and determine the areas for future research. This paper reviews a total of 397 unique publications retrieved from the international journals accessible in the Web of Science database. Based on different criteria deployed by the scientometric analysis, the selected articles have been reviewed...
