This paper describes a methodology for assessing farms that considers the multi-functionality derived from the requirements and expectations of the agricultural sector. To this end an original, multicriteria method was developed for assessing farms based on their individual data. Five dimensions were assessed (production, economic, financial stability, environmental, social & other), representing the most important aspects of farming. The overall assessment based on these five dimensions aims to express the total sustainability rate of the farms. The methodology used to develop this assessment is described. The results of the assessment for 2016...

One constraint when dealing with food security problems is the absence of measurement tools that allow for mitigation strategies to be targeted on each region individually. The elasticities can be used as a good exploratory instrument of food security. This paper presents a proposal for measuring the food insecurity dimensions of access and stability, integrating the values of the different kinds of elasticities. The methodology was applied to Spain, using data from nine groups of protein-rich foods of animal origin during the 2004-2015 period in 17 regions. The results suggest that, as regards foods rich in...

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2020, 66(3):120-128 | DOI: 10.17221/147/2019-AGRICECON
The convergence policy in agriculture, existing in many forms, has globally become one of the main concepts in agricultural development with the "sixth industrial movement" in South Korea and Japan; the multifunctional agriculture (MFA) policies proposed by van der Ploeg and Roep being good examples. The goal of this study is to test three hypotheses through the economic valuation of MFA. In the first part of the research, the importance of agricultural production activity and the core element of the rural complex were evaluated. In the second part, an assessment of three strategies of MFA and its eleven specific attributes was conducted. In the third...

There is a link between rural-urban remittances and wage inequality. However, the existing literature sheds little light on this topic. In this study, we establish a three-sector general equilibrium model to investigate the effects of rural-urban migrants' remittances on wage inequality. Further, we use Chinese macroeconomic data to calibrate the parameters and conduct analysis with numerical simulation. We find that, when rural-urban migrants raise their remittance rate, wage inequality between skilled labour and the urban formal sector remains unchanged in the sector-specific capital case but narrows in the sector-mobile capital case. Moreover, in...

Agricultural economic growth requires management due to poor structurization. The study aimed to determine the parameters of the management strategy for the economic growth of agriculture in Russia. The research methodology relies on cognitive technologies of modelling the strategic alternatives of the economic development of the industrial complex using fuzzy cognitive logic. Static and dynamic analysis of the fuzzy cognitive maps on structural and dynamic indicators of agricultural economic growth in Russia allowed the forecast of the industry trends, influenced by various management factors. The option of an integrated management strategy for the...
