Lukáš Čechura
Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2012, 58(4):147-156 | DOI: 10.17221/56/2011-AGRICECON
The paper deals with the analysis of technical efficiency and the total factor productivity (TFP) in Czech agriculture. The aim is to identify the key factors determining the efficiency of input use and the TFP development. The Fixed Management model is used for the estimation of technical efficiency and the construction of TFP for the total agriculture and its individual branches. The results show that technical inefficiency is an important phenomenon in Czech agriculture and its individual branches. The TFP development is determined by all components, i.e., technical efficiency, scale effect, technological change and management. Their contributions...

Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2012, 58(4):157-164 | DOI: 10.17221/122/2011-AGRICECON
Whether the US Farm Bill 2008 has any impacts on China's agriculture, is highly related to the China's rural poverty alleviation and it deserves to be explored to see what will happen. According the existing empirical studies in the past, we expect that the US Farm Bill 2008 will exert an influence on the agricultural production and rural poverty in developing countries, especially China. In order to fully capture such an effect, we link two equilibrium models together: the multinational CGE model - GTAP and the China's partial equilibrium model - the China's Agricultural Policy Simulation and Projection Model (CAPSiM). A scenario based on the US Farm...

Agriculture ensures the physical existence of the population and it creates a fund of basic foodstuffs. In addition, it produces non-food commodities as well as being a region forming and political element. It fulfils the function of an internal political stabilising factor and it is a requirement for an overall, balanced, development. The article puts into context: global agriculture; agricultural production within the expanded EU, which is developing under the conditions of the integrated Common Agricultural Policy. It also draws attention to the current trends characteristic of agriculture within the EU. Emphasis is also put on how the Common Agricultural...

Agricultural land market is usually defined as the purchase of agricultural land. In the most of the European countries, the land rental transactions have received the dominant position in the land market. Therefore, the land rental transactions are included into the agricultural land market analysis. The decision processes of market subjects are often influenced by the law. On the one hand, there is the law regulating the value of agricultural land from the various points of view. On the other hand, there are some statutes stipulating the rental legal rules. The objective of this paper is to analyse the influence of the law on the behaviour of market...

The present study has investigated the country specific determinants of the vertical and total intra-industry trade between Iran and its main trading partners (including 24 countries) in the agricultural products group during the time period 2001-2007. Agric. Econ. - Czech, 2012, 58(4):191-199 | DOI: 10.17221/37/2010-AGRICECON
An increasing number of works on the rural-environmental connection can be found at present. However, their overview and classification are needed - this is the guiding idea of this paper. We distinguish three approaches to the rural-environmental connection and label them scientific approach, environmentalist approach, and development approach. In the paper, theories of environmental concern (post-materialism, paradigm shift, and ecological modernisation) are discussed at first and then a classification of works is proposed.
